E5/E10 & Classics
Since October 2019, filling station owners have been obliged to use E10 petrol in many European countries. E10 is fossil fuel to which a maximum of 10% bio-ethanol has been added. The designations RON 95 and RON 98 have been replaced by E10 and E5 respectively. Where 95 and 98 indicated the octane number, E10 or E5 is the percentage of bi-oethanol in the fuel. E10 stands for 10% Ethanol and E5 for 5% ethanol.
Bio-ethanol is an alcohol that is made from, for example, wheat, sugar and corn. Good for the environment, but not that good for your classic car or motorcycle. Ethanol is more aggressive than gasoline for plastics and metals and can therefore affect engine parts such as gaskets and seals.
Ethanol has the disadvantage that it attracts water. The consequence of water in gasoline is the formation of bacteria. In the past this was killed by the sulfur in gasoline, but the sulfur has also disappeared from today’s gasoline.
Furthermore, the addition of ethanol causes an increase in the vapor pressure, leading to a faster occurrence of the so-called ‘vapor lock.’ Vapor lock results in vapor bubbles forming in fuel lines, the carburetor, or the injection system. A warm engine may refuse to start due to vapor lock. TetraBOOST E-guard 15 neutralizes ethanol, even when gasoline contains 15% ethanol (E15).
Modern gasoline deteriorates much faster than in the past; it starts to degrade after only 60 days. If your vehicle is parked for an extended period, it is necessary to add an anti-aging agent. By adding TetraBOOST E-guard 15 or TetraBOOST Fuel Life Extender, the lifespan of the fuel can be extended to up to 2 years.
Adding TetraBOOST products to your fuel helps maintain your classic car or motorcycle in good condition, both during regular use and during periods of storage.
